HTC Unveils The Rhyme 3G Smartphone

9/20/2011 11:48:31 AM Eastern
New York - HTC today introduced the Rhyme 3G smartphone.

RhymeThe plum-colored 3G Rhyme will become available on Sept. 29 for $199 exclusively on the Verizon Wireless network. Verizon will carry the Rhyme in all its locations, and it also will be offered at Target Stores, said Marni Walden, Verizon's VP, chief marketing officer.

An HTC staffer said there are no plans for a 4G version at this time.

The Rhyme will come bundled with a docking station, ear buds and a charm, all with a matching color scheme.

The charm is an innovation intended to help users from missing calls. It is a small purple cube that connects to the phone's mic jack and lights up when there is an incoming call or message. The idea is the phone can be kept tucked away, and the charm, which is attached to a 2-foot wire, is clipped onto your person or bag in a visible position, said Scott Croyle, HTC's design VP.

The docking station is part of HTC's effort to promote the Rhyme as a clock/radio replacement. The phone is placed into the angled dock, where it automatically connects to the docks built-in speakers.

HTC also included a redesigned HTC Sense with the Rhyme. This version allows the home screen to be easily altered; the camera app can be launched directly from the display, cutting down on set up time; and photos can be set to automatically appear on Facebook and Twitter whenever they are taken.

The camera has a burst mode that takes five images in 2.5 seconds. The display area itself now sports dynamic tabs for email, photos, messaging and other heavily used apps.

The phone runs on a Qualcomm MSM 8655 1GHz processor, uses the Android with HTC Sense OS, and has a 3.7-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera and a non-replaceable 1,600-milliamp lithium-ion battery.
