10/11/2002 08:15:00 AM Eastern

Cupertino, Calif. - Hewlett-Packard today introduced its first PC based on the Microsoft Media Center operating system.

The HP Media Center, suggested retail price $1,400 and shipping at the end of October, features many TV-like options including being controlled by a remote, a TV tuner card with PVR functionality for storing programs on the hard drive or DVD+R/RW media and time phase viewing of shows. It will sell through most major CE and computer retailers and at hpshopping.com.

Media Center is a multimedia-centric version of the Windows XP OS introduced by Microsoft in July. HP is the first PC vendor to produce a computer using the Media Center OS.
