5/28/2008 03:01:00 PM Eastern

San Jose, Calif. — Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has introduced two new internal hard drives aimed at the set-top box, DVR and Media PC markets.

The CinemaStar C5K320 and 5K5000 will be available to manufacturers starting next month.

The 5,400 rpm C5K320 is based on a 2.5-inch platter and will come in 120GB and 320GB capacities.

The 5K5000 uses 3.5-inch platters and will hold 500GB of content. It is also Hitachi’s first drive to incorporate the company’s CoolSpin technology. This uses less power, has a lower idle speed and runs at a wider temperature range making it simpler to embed in CE products, Hitachi said.
