New York – Hewlett-Packard today
continued with its almost continuous rollout of new PC products, introducing
several notebooks and a wireless audio system.
Hitting stores today are the HP Folio,
HP Envy 15, 17 and 173D, along with the Pavilion dm4 and dm4 Beats Edition. The
HP computer-based Wireless Audio system rounded out the introductions.
HP marks two firsts with the Folio.
It is HP’s first laptop based on Intel’s Ultrabook concept and HP’s first
laptop aimed at the consumer and business markets.
The Folio will carry an $899
suggested retail and hit stores on Dec. 7.
It is about 1 inch thick, weighs
3.3 pounds and has 9.5 hours of battery life. It comes with a choice of an
Intel Core i3 or i5 processor using Intel’s Rapid Start Technology and a 128GB
solid-state drive.
The business version is configured
slightly differently, featuring TMP security and a Windows 7 Pro operating
system.
HP also updated its Envy line for
the first time since it was introduced three years ago, said Cameron Duncan,
Envy notebook product manager.
The line now includes a built-in
optical drive and a new softer appearance with red trim to help it appeal to a
wider audience, Duncan said. It also has more multimedia functionality,
sporting six speakers, Beats Audio technology and a volume-control wheel
located on the edge of the keyboard area.
The Envy 15 has a 15.6-inch
display and can be configured with an Intel quad-core processor and AMD
Mobility Radeon HD graphics processors. It has an HDMI port and a full-size
DisplayPort.
It will ship on Dec. 7 with a
$1,099 suggested retail.
The Envy 17 has a 17.3-inch
display but carries the same basic specifications as the Envy 15. It can
support a 128GB solid-state drive for storage or up to two 1TB hard drives.
It also ships on Dec. 7 with a
$1,249 suggested retail.
The Envy 17 3D version, $1,599,
has a 17.3-inch 3D display that requires active-shutter glasses for viewing.
The Pavilion dm4 and dm4 Beats
Edition also share a basic foundation that includes a 14-inch display, a 4.5-pound
weight and a seven-hour battery life. They use Intel’s Core processors with
optional AMD Radeon HD7470M discrete graphics.
The Beats Edition adds this audio
technology and has a black with red trim chassis, while the dm4 has an aluminum
finish.
Both are available on Dec. 18 with
the dm4 carrying a $699 suggested price and the Beats Edition coming in at
$899.
HP’s Wireless Audio system,
shipping in December with a $99 suggested retail, allows for audio content to
be streamed from a computer to a home’s sound system. This is done via a USB
controller that is plugged into the computer, which transmits the content to a
remote device that is plugged into the speaker system.
