Hewlett Packard Bows Notebooks, Desktops, Frames, Accessories

Palo Alto, Calif. — Hewlett-Packard today announced new consumer notebooks, desktops and accessories.

“HP’s new consumer notebooks and TouchSmart PC deliver smart and creative ways to engage the wealth of photos, videos, music and entertainment that was previously stuck on our PCs gathering digital dust,” said Stephen DeWitt, senior VP, personal systems group, HP. “HP is developing new products and solutions that help make connecting to people and information simple and fun and create a truly personalized computing experience.”

HP’s HDX16 and HDX18 notebook PCs feature 1080p displays, built-in TV tuners and Blu-ray Disc capabilities. Both notebooks include built-in Wi-Fi networking, along with audio/video options that include Altec Lansing speakers, an HP Triple Bass subwoofer and Dolby Home Theater software.

The HDX16 has a 16-inch diagonal widescreen with 720p or 1080p resolution display. The HDX18 has an 18.4-inch diagonal Ultra BrightView 1080p screen and what HP called “enthusiast-class graphics capabilities.”

The HDX notebook PCs feature HP MediaSmart entertainment software.

The HP HDX16 starts at $1,299, while the HP HDX18 starts at $1,549. Both are expected to be available starting later this month.

In desktops, HP broadened the reach of its TouchSmart brand of all-in-one touchscreen desktops with the launch of the TouchSmart IQ800 series, which features a 25.5-inch widescreen with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,200 pixels. The device is wall-mountable and can double as a TV. It features a slot-load Blu-ray player.

The Iq800 features Intel Core 2 Duo processors and uses HP power-management technology for energy-saving purposes. The device has a built-in Web cam, a colored HP Ambient Light feature, a built-in media-card reader, large-capacity hard drive, an HP Pocked Media Drive Bay for connecting an additional hard drive and speakers.

The HP TouchSmart IQ804 PC starts at $1,899 and is expected to be available Sept. 21, while the HP TouchSmart IQ816 PC starts at $2,099 and is expected to be available Oct. 12.

Beyond its computer introductions, HP also announced new digital picture frames and accessories like its SimpleSave solutions, mice, keyboards and flash storage devices.

The company’s digital frame portfolio has been expanded to include a portable, 3.5-inch pocket frame and a10-inch cherry wood-finish frame. The frames feature clock and calendar options, support MP3 and other audio formats, and play music through stereo speakers.

The frames can be further personalized with a variety of interchangeable, double-matting options. PictBridge functionality allows consumers to print photos right from the digital picture frame.

Available now, HP Digital Picture Frames come in 3.5-inch, 7-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch sizes and range in price from $59 to $219.

On the accessories side, HP is launching its SimpleSave line of one-time backup products that allow users to backup their content easily. The user must insert a SimpleSave disk into a computer’s DVD drive and the solution will find all the music or documents automatically and save them to the DVD. The company is offering specific SimpleSave products for documents, photos, and music and video files.

HP SimpleSave is available in a five-pack for $14.99 from major electronics retailers.

HP introduced two new gaming mice — the HDX laser mouse and laser gaming mouse with VoodooDNA — offer up to five levels of on-the-fly sensitivity, allowing gamers to adjust dpi settings up to 3,200 dpi in-game. Using the five programmable buttons and VoodooDNA GUI software, gamers can preset five different macros with five unique profiles for up to 25 different combinations of ultimate game-playing flexibility.
