Haier Fighting Hunger In New York

New York – Haier America is supporting the Food Bank For New
York City by matching donations to the charity’s Community Kitchen & Food
Pantry dollar for dollar between now and Jan. 31.

The CE and appliance vendor’s Virtual Food Drive, part of
its “Smarter Life, Better Planet” campaign, will match individual contributions
up to $4,000, and will be accepting donations next month at 2012 International
CES.

“It is important for Haier to continue our commitment to the
Food Bank For New York City, which we began in August through an employee
volunteer effort,” said Haier America president Shariff Kan. “Through this
program we are using the spotlight of the International CES to give consumers
the chance to take decisive action to contribute to the greater good and reduce
hunger in America.”

Haier said it will showcase the “Smarter Life, Better
Planet” program at its International CES booth, in addition to its new product
innovations. TVs will display a live stream of the Virtual Food Drive page, and
attendees will be invited to take the pledge in-person at the booth or
remotely.

“At a time when one New Yorker in five relies on the Food
Bank For New York City’s programs and services, we are very pleased to partner
with Haier whose donation will help bring families together this holiday
season,” said Margarette Purvis, president/CEO of the 28-year-old charity,
which serves as the Big Apple’s major hunger-relief organization. “We commend
Haier for encouraging Americans to support their communities and for providing
the tools they need to help others.”

Through its network of community-based member programs
citywide, the Food Bank helps provide 400,000 free meals a day for New Yorkers
in need. Every dollar donated helps the organization provide five nutritious
meals for New Yorkers in need.

Haier also invites pledge-takers to share their own stories
and ideas via its “Smarter Life, Better Planet”

Facebook page

. The
page showcases ways Americans can make more forward thinking choices in their
daily lives, and educates people about how to provide service to others and
their communities through acts of upstanding citizenry.

Haier began working with the Food Bank For New York City in
August as part of the company’s Clean Start Project. The program was the launch
of its first employee volunteer program in which Haier employees from New York and
New Jersey prepared and served food at the Food Bank’s Community Kitchen &
Food Pantry in Harlem over the course of the month.
