GPX Adopts TransFlash

St. Louis — GPX will become the first CE supplier to offer SanDisk’s TransFlash memory card format in a device other than a cellular phone.

GPX plans spring shipments of a SportX series of compressed-music headphone stereos that features embedded memory as well as TransFlash slot for adding more memory. SportX series products integrate music storage into the headphones to eliminate wires between headphones and an outboard player.

The headphone models feature WMA, DRM and MP3 playback; FM stereo tuner with station presets; and equalizer. It will include 128MB at a suggested $99, but 256MB and 512MB capacities might also be launched. It features replaceable rechargeable lithium-ion battery that delivers four to six hours of MP3/WMA music playback time. TransFlash memory cards are available in 32MB to 256MB capacities.
