GE Recalls 174,000 Dishwashers

Louisville, Ky. – GE Appliances is recalling about 174,000 GE
Profile and Monogram dishwashers made between 2003 and 2006 due to a possible
fire hazard.

The premium models were sold through national chains, independent
appliance dealers and authorized builder distributors for between $750 and
$1,400.

GE has received five reports of fires related to water
condensation that dripped onto the electronic control board, causing a short
circuit that overheated a connector. Four of the fires caused minor damage to
kitchen countertops and one caused minor damage to adjacent cabinets and smoke
damage to the home. No injuries have been reported.

GE is voluntarily recalling the products in cooperation with the U.S.
Consumer Product Safety Commission, and has established a toll-free hotline.
The company is offering consumers a free in-home repair or $200 rebate for the
purchase of a new GE Profile dishwasher, or a $400 rebate for the purchase of a
new GE Monogram dishwasher.

GE recalled 181,000 front load washers in June due to a potential
fire and electrical shock hazard.
