Poway, Calif. – Gateway will launch two dedicated gaming PCs Aug. 21 built around two high-end NVIDIA graphics cards that will place the company in direct competition with Dell and other firms vying for the highly desirable high-end PC gamer customer.
The Gateway 700X and 500X Gaming PCs are derivatives of two current Gateway models, the 700XL and 500S. The Gaming PCs will compete with Dell Dimension XPS gaming PC that was launched in April and companies like Alien Ware, which specializes in the high-end gamer market.
The 700X is powered by a 2.8GHz Intel Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading technology, the 256MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra graphics card, 512MB of DDR SDRAM, 160GB hard drive, DVD-R/-RW/CD-RW drive and is bundled with a 19-inch CRT monitor with a $2,099 suggested retail price. The 500X uses a slightly slower 2.4GHz Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading processor, 128MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, half the amount of RAM and hard disk space and comes with a 17-inch monitor for $1,149.
The computers are bundled with a variety of software including the full versions of Madden 2004, Battlefield 1942 and Need For Speed – Hot Pursuit 2.
The new PCs will be supported by a series of gaming events called the Cinematic Computing Experience that will be held at various Gateway Country stores starting on Aug. 27.
