Garmin Fixes PND Glitch

Olathe, Kan. — Garmin said it corrected a firmware problem announced Wednesday in some of its high-end portable GPS devices and has released a firmware update to correct the glitch which caused the devices to shut down or fail to acquire a GPS signal.

The firmware update repairs the 7x5 series, although the company has since announced problems on the nuvi 800 series, nuvi 8x5 series, zumo 660, GPSMAP 620 and GPSMAP 640, for which it expects to offer repairs “in the near future,” according to a Garmin statement released Wednesday night.

For users of malfunctioning 7x5 units that can’t acquire a GPS satellite signal, downloads of the firmware update are available at
