Fujifilm Fall Digicams Feature 18x Zoom, Face Detection 2.0

Valhalla, N.Y. – Fujifilm will ship five new digital cameras in September, debuting a new version of its face detection technology as well as the company’s first 12-megapixel camera and first model with an 18x optical zoom lens.

All of Fujifilm’s new FinePix cameras will feature dual memory card slots for xD and SDHC memory, IrSimple.

The 12-megapixel FinePix F50fd incorporates a 7th generation version of the company’s Super CCD technology alongside a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.7-inch high-resolution LCD.

The camera marks the debut of the second generation of Fujifilm’s face detection technology. Like the original, version 2.0 can detect up to 10 faces but is now capable of finding faces in a greater variety of angles, including profile shots. The technology also powers a new automatic red eye removal feature, which corrects red eye in camera in playback mode.

The F50fd also marks the introduction of a dual image stabilization system which combines a CCD-shifting mechanism with an ISO and shutter speed boosting function. The camera offers full resolution shooting at ISO 1600, 6-megapixel shooting at ISO 3200 and 3-megapixel shooting at ISO 6400.

Additional features include a portrait enhancer mode, a dual shot mode for capturing one photo with the flash on and one with the flash off in quick succession for comparison’s sake, and 16 scene modes including a blog mode, which will copy a reduced size version of an image for posting online.

The FinePix F50fd will retail for a suggested $299.

In the ultra zoom category, Fujifilm will introduce its first 18x model. The 8-megapixel S8000fd  features a 27mm to 486mm lens with dual image stabilization. It can achieve light sensitivity of ISO 1600 at full resolution and ISO 3200 and 6400 at 4-megapixels. It features face detection, in-camera automatic red-eye removal, Fujifilm’s i-Flash system, manual controls, a 2.5-inch LCD, VGA/30fps movie capture, and a burst mode to capture 2-megapixel stills at 15fps.

The FinePix S8000fd will retail for a suggested $399.

Fujifilm will target its 7-megapixel Z10fd toward younger users, with the model available in five colors: blue, green, pink, orange and black.

It will feature a 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD, picture stabilization, 54MB of internal memory, automatic in-camera slideshow creation and a blog mode. It offers light sensitivities to ISO 1600, i-Flash, dual shot mode and 14 scene modes.

Fujifilm will promote the new camera with a Web-site – www.offZhook.com – starting August 1. The camera will retail for a suggested $199.

In the company’s F-series, Fujifilm will ship the 8-megapixel F480 with a 4x optical zoom, wide angle lens (28mm to 112mm, 35mm equivalent)., picture stabilization, a 2.7-inch LCD, mode dial, and 13 scene modes. The F480 will retail for a suggested $179.

Lastly, in the company’s entry-level A-series, Fujifilm added the 9-megapixel A920. It features a 4x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD, picture stabilization, 15 scene modes, and ISO 800 at full resolution. It features a new graphical user interface and will retail for a suggested $199.
