WILSONVILLE, ORE. — Flir Systems recently unveiled at International CES its Flir FX compact Wi-Fi camera.
The 2014 Innovations Award-winning camera, which will ship in the spring at a $249 suggested retail, is billed as an easy-to-use, affordable video-monitoring solution with a wide range of applications from outdoor security, home monitoring and sports recording.
Among other things, the camera is equipped with Flir’s Thermal Fence technology used in conjunction with thermal imaging to enable the camera to provide a range of advanced security benefits based on military-grade thermal vision.
The company said future Xloud-based services will provide options for advanced features extending the cameras’ capabilities, including smart alerts utilizing video analytics, and accurate human and vehicle detection.
The camera’s resolution is listed at up to FullHD 1080p, and the field of view is 160 degrees.
The Flir FX will record for up to four hours off its internal battery and has a variety of cordless mounting options.
The camera will connect with smartphones and tablets and the Internet from anywhere in the world. A built-in Wi-Fi hot spot also can be used to create a secure, direct connection without any Internet access.
Flir’s free Cloud Service is available to easily connect the camera with iOS and Android mobile devices, and can be used for local recording, and playback features with no recurring fees.
Other features include two-way audio, securitygrade night vision, push notifications, smart alerts for motion and audio detection, and temperature monitoring.
Flir offers a wide range of purpose-built accessories and mounting stands, including the included indoor home-monitor stand. Optional stands include a dashboard mount for recording events in a vehicle, a weather-proof enclosure for outdoor use, and wearable accessories for action sports.
Flir said the FX is the first in a series of consumer cameras that will continue to see enhancements with new technologies throughout 2014.
