Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai is expected to brief the House Energy & Commerce Committee on his plans to roll back his agency’s net neutrality rules, which compel ISPs to provide equal access to all websites and apps.
Cable companies and mobile carriers have argued that the Title II regulations, implemented under President Obama, hamper investment and innovation. But FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn, along with Capitol Hill Democrats and online businesses including Google and Netflix, vow to fight Pai’s plans, which would return control to the ISPs over which online content gets bandwidth priority or even access to the web.
