San Mateo, Calif. — Fabrik has introduced a Turbo USB 2.0 external storage and backup drive and updated the rest of the line.

The main feature of the SimpleTech “[re]drive” is that it is energy-efficient, according to a company spokesperson. The “[re]drive,” which features a sustainable bamboo and recyclable aluminum enclosure, an Energy Star adapter and a fan-less cooling system, is said to deliver a power savings of up to 90 percent over traditional drives, the company said.

The Mac- and PC-compatible device offers 500 GB of in-device storage and comes with an additional 2GBs of online cloud backup through the use of Fabrik’s Ultimate Backup Software; users also have the option to access unlimited online storage capacity for a monthly fee of $4.95.

It is said to come in a 100 percent recyclable package at a suggested retail of $159.

Beyond the “[re]drive,” Fabrik has also updated its SimpleTech SimpleDrive and is currently shipping newly designed versions with up to 1TB of storage. Also, all of the devices in the line from 320GB through 1GB versions will all now come equipped with a faster Turbo USB 2.0 interface. The devices carry suggested retails ranging from $99.99 through $259, depending on the capacity.

Finally, Fabrik also increased the capacity of its Signature mini USB 2.0 portable drives to 500GB and has added two new color options: cayenne and ice. The devices are available in capacities ranging from 160GB through 500GB at suggested prices ranging from $99.99 to $229, depending on capacity.
