ESPN, Philips, DirecTV In HD Promo

BRISTOL, CONN. – ESPN, Philips and DirecTV announced a joint HDTV promotion awarding consumers 100 prize packages including a Philips 42W-inch HDTV, DirecTV HD hardware and service for one year.

Consumers can obtain a code word in each of the next 100 ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD telecasts (starting Sept. 1), which are simulcast on ESPN and ESPN2.

They then log on to 100yardblitz.com with the code word to register and tune in to Mike and Mike in the Morning on the 300 nationwide affiliates of ESPN Radio (including XM and Sirius Satellite Radio) to see if they won.

The program is also simulcast on ESPNEWS, which reaches 44 million homes via cable and satellite.

Consumers are invited to repeat the process over and over again throughout the fall to have the chance to win one of the 100 packages.

ESPN2 HD will launch service on DirecTV on September 8th.

The time period of the promotion covers the majority of the football season–running through Nov. 26–when interest in HDTV is its highest leading up to the holiday selling season, ESPN said.

“We expect the overall reach of this effort to be well beyond anything ever before contemplated,” said Bryan Burns, ESPN strategic business planning and development VP. “We often say `nothing sells HD like ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD.’ This morning we feel The 100 Yard Blitz will certainly add to our support of the overall move to HDTV in the United States.”

ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD unveiled the 100 Yard Blitz with 61 live event telecasts in August.

ESPN will give away 100 packages, coupled with free DirecTV HD service for one year, every weekday morning at 8:40 a.m. ET until Nov. 26 on the “Mike and Mike” radio show.
