Epson Updates PictureMate Snapshot Printers

9/06/2006 02:48:00 PM Eastern

Long Valley, Calif. – Epson introduced a trio of new PictureMate snapshot photo printers today.

The line will include the PictureMate Pal, Snap and Flash. All use the company’s MicroPiezo print technology with a new ink formulation that Epson claims produces fade, smudge, scratch and water resistant prints. According to Wilhelm Imaging Research testing, PictureMate prints made with Epson ink and paper can resist fading for up to 96 years under glass or 200 years in a photo album.

The three printers accept the popular memory card formats and offer LCD screens for PC free printing. All are shipping this month.

The PictureMate Pal can crank out a 4-inch by 6-inch photo in roughly 60 seconds. It features automatic image correction, a 2-inch LCD screen and Bluetooth printing (with an optional adapter). It can print several layout sizes up to 4 by 6-inch in color, black and white or sepia tones. It will retail for an estimated $149.

The Snap offers faster print speeds of a 4 by 6-inch print in 45 seconds, a larger, 2.5-inch LCD with adjustable tilt, one-touch red eye removal, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Snap also adds unlimited cropping using the viewer and crop buttons and additional layouts such as U.S. passport size, jumbo wallet, 2 by 2-inch, 3 by 3-inch, CD proof sheets and portrait packages of four or 10 photos to a page.

The Snap also features built-in picture borders with Disney characters. It will retail for an estimated $199.

Finally, the top-of-the-line Flash for $299 builds off the Snap by adding a built-in CD burner with a dedicated “save to CD” button.

Both the Snap and Flash will work with an optional internal battery for taking the models on the road. The $49.99 rechargeable battery can produce up to 140 photos or six hours of standby time on the Snap and 120 photos/four hours of standby on the Flash.

To compliment the new models, Epson will offer two Print Packs - 150 sheets of glossy 4 by 6-inch photo paper and ink cartridge for an estimated $39.99 and 100 sheets of 4 by 6-inch matte paper and ink cartridge for $34.99.
