Epson Launches First PictBridge Photo Printers

Long Beach, Calif. — Epson has introduced its first PictBridge-enabled photo printers, and its first consumer photo printer line featuring individual ink cartridges.

The new Sytlus Photo R300 and R300M will ship this month with an estimated street price of $179 and $229, respectively. Both models share the same features but the R300M adds a 2.5-inch color LCD screen for previewing and cropping images before printing.

While both units can connect to a PC via USB 2.0, they incorporate a number of features to encourage standalone photo printing without a computer. They feature a front USB 1.1 host port for connecting to PictBridge-enabled digital cameras and flash memory card slots for CompactFlash Type I and II, Microdrive, xD-Picture Card, Memory Stick (including PRO and Duo), SmartMedia, and SD/MMC.

A control panel on the front of both printers allows users to select paper type, size and number of copies as well as save their favorite print settings for a ‘one touch’ button without having to designate these settings on a computer.

Both printers can also print directly to the surface of ink jet printable CDs and DVDs through a front loading CD tray that comes with the printers. Included software allows consumers to customize graphics and text that can be applied to a CD’s surface.

The R300 and R300M offer up to 5760 by 1440 dpi and border free printing in 4 by 6, 5 by 7, 8 by 10, 8.5 by 11, and panoramic size photos. An optional Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter is available for use with both R300 and R300M. to allow users to print directly from a variety of Bluetooth enabled devices including mobile phones, PDAs and Windows-based laptops and desktop PCs.

The adapter is currently available for an estimated street price of $69.
