Las Vegas - Though partly eclipsed by the fanfare of its front and rear projection television announcements, Epson also used CES to quietly debut a hard-drive based portable photo viewer.

The P-1000 features a 3.8-inch high resolution LCD screen with a 10GB hard drive to store digital images. It features a CompactFlash card slot and can support Memory Stick, Smart Media, SD/MMC with an optional third-party adapter (sold separately).

The device can zoom in or rotate images, run them in a slideshow and connect to a television (NTSC or PAL) to view images stored on the drive on a larger screen.

The unit supports both JPEG (Exif 2.1 and 2.2) and raw image file formats for select digital SLR cameras and acts as an external drive when connected to a desktop computer.

The P-1000 is currently shipping with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and AC adapter for a suggested retail price of $599. It can print directly to select Epson printers via a USB cable.
