Epson Debuts Scanner with LED Light Source

Long Beach, Calif. — Epson introduced its first scanner with an LED light source.

The V500 Photo is a 6,400 dpi scanner with new “ReadyScan” LED technology that eliminates the warm-up time associated with previous technology. Using the technology also allows for faster transparency scanning and the ability to switch between reflective and transparency scanning instantly, the company said.

Using an LED light source also confers several environmental benefits, Epson said. It draws less power than conventional cold cathode fluorescent lamps and does not contain mercury.

The V500 also incorporates Digital ICE technology for automatically removing dust and scratches from film and ships with Epson’s Easy Photo Fix software for color restoration, dust removal and grain reduction when scanning photos.

The 48-bit scanner will retail for a suggested $249.
