Epson Announces Software Driver Standard

Long Beach, Calif. — Epson announced a new printing standard, called Epson EasyPrint, that embeds the more important print settings of the company’s printer driver into a software application’s “print” screen.

Epson billed the standard as a means to simplify the desktop printing process when using its printers. The standard will “eliminate the need for most users to select print settings from the Epson printer driver,” the company said.

Rather than drilling down into the “properties” button on most software print screens, programs compatible with EasyPrint will require fewer steps to choose paper size, type and other settings.

Software vendor Adobe will be the first company to integrate the standard in the newest version of its Photoshop Elements (3.0) imaging program.

The new standard will work with the following Epson printers and multifunction devices: the Stylus C64 and C84; the Stylus Photo 900, 960, 2200, R200, R300/300M and R800; and the multifunction CX6400, CX6600 and RX500.
