EIF To Honor Students In Technology Competition

4/19/2002 09:26:00 AM Eastern

Arlington, Va. -- The Electronic Industries Foundation (EIF) today announced the winners of the annual Project Homepage competition, a national online technology competition in which middle and high school students develop technology concepts to address real world issues.

Several of these teams from Vienna, Va., Liberty, S.C., Berkeley Heights, N.J. and Washington, D.C., along with their technical advisors from Computer Associates International, Cornell Dubilier Electronics, Agere Systems and Chemical Products Corporation will be recognized at the Electronic Industries Alliance Government-Industry Dinner in Washington, DC., to be held Tuesday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m.

Project Homepage focuses on helping students develop science and technology skills for future employment. The program operates by pairing `technical advisors' from electronics companies (e.g. engineers, chemists, scientists, etc.) with teams of middle and high school students, to conduct collaborative research projects over the Internet. Each team is tasked with solving a real world problem using technology that relates to their technical advisors' company. Students communicate with their advisor, via the Internet, to conceptualize and develop solutions. Each team then creates a website to share their results, which are entered into an online competition.

For more information on the competition and the list of high school and middle school teams receiving awards for their Project Homepage competition entries visit EIF web site at www.eiafoundation.org after May 1, 2002.

Project Homepage is a program of the Electronic Industries Foundation and is made possible through the participation and financial support of the following major sponsors: ADC Foundation, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), Cornell Dubilier Electronics, Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), Government Electronics and Information Technology Assn. (GEIA), Directed Electronics, Inc., JEDEC Solid State Assn.
