In-Ear Noise-Canceling Headphones Debut From Sony

San Diego - Sony introduced a pair of noise-canceling headphones on Wednesday, including an in-ear model, as well as several headsets.

The MDR-NC100D in-ear headphonesThe MDR-NC100D in-ear headphones ($150) have 13.5mm drivers and feature Sony's digital signal processing (DSP) technology, which the company said reduces up to 98.2 percent of ambient noise.

The headphones, which have up to 22 hours of use on an AAA battery, ship with three sizes of ear buds. Also included are a carrying pouch, in-flight plug adaptor and cord adjuster.

The MDR-NC200D headphones ($200) have an over-the-head design with 40mm drivers and active noise cancellation with Sony's DSP technology. The headphones will still operate when the noise-cancellation is turned off.

Features include a two-way folding design, a carrying case, an in-flight plug adaptor and a detachable cord. It also has a listed 22 hours of use on an AAA battery. These two models will be available this month.  

Sony also took the wraps off several headsets. The DR-EX14VP ($40) and DR-XB23VP ($60) feature in-line remotes/microphones that can adjust volume, play/pause songs, and answer and end calls. They are compatible with iPhones, BlackBerrys and Android smartphones, and come with an extension cable for compatibility with Sony Ericsson, Nokia and other-brand smartphones.

The DR-EX14VP comes in black, violet and pink. Both come with three sizes of silicone ear buds.

Also introduced just for Apple users are the DR-XB22iP ($40), DR-EX61iP ($60) and DR-ZX701iP ($150) headsets. Designed for use with iPods and iPhones, these models have in-line mics and remotes, as well as a VoiceOver mode that lets compatible iPods states the name of the currently playing song or playlist.

The DR-EX61ip and DR-XB22iP are both in-ear models, while the DR-ZX701iP has an over-the-head design with 50mm drivers. The DR-ZX701iP also comes with noise-isolating ear pads.

The headset line will be available in October.
