DPI Shows 1,080p Reference Projection TV

Digital Projection International (DPI), a manufacturer of high-performance video projection systems, will show at CEDIA Expo (booth 558) a pair of recently introduced native 1080p 3-chip DLP projectors – the TITAN 1080p-250 and the ultra-high-end HIGHlite Reference 1080p projector.

The company will also showcase its newest video image processor and source switcher, the VIP 2000, and will announce the addition of the TheaterScope Premier lens system to their line of home cinema projectors and system accessories.

The TITAN 1,080p-250 projector incorporates three of Texas Instruments’ 0.98 inch native 1,920 by 1,080p DMDs and its DarkMetal DLP technology.

The projector weighs 59.5 pounds and produces an operating noise level of less than 35dBa. Brightness is rated at 2,000 ANSI lumens and the contrast ratio is 5,000:1, the company said.

The 1,080p-250 also features enhanced seven-point color correction, user-selectable Xenon Color Mode, and accurate colorimetry control that provides accurate white point definition with extensive control over gamma, color and grayscale tracking.

Included on the unit are up to seven user-selectable inputs, including HDCP compliant DVI and HD/SD-SDI, an enhanced seven-point color correction system for expanded color space and super-accurate end-user color alignment .

Constant-height screen applications are enabled through DPI’s optional TheaterScope Premier System, which further extends the entertainment experience delivered by the TITAN 1,080p-250.

The new TheaterScope Premier, which the company is also making available as an option for other DPI models, incorporates a precision anamorphic lens and motorized lens sled.

When source content changes from 16:9 to a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, the TheaterScope Premier System is triggered via contact closure or RS 232 control, to accurately slide the anamorphic lens into the projector’s light path.

As the constant-height screen expands from a 16:9 to a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, the TheaterScope Premier System optically stretches the projected image to fill the full width of the 2.35 screen surface.

The TheaterScope Premier features a larger anamorphic lens, specifically designed to serve DP’s higher resolution, native 1,080p projectors — the dVision 1,080p, TITAN 1,080p-250 and TITAN 1,080p-500 models.

Also being showcased is DPI’s flagship three-chip 1,080p DLP projector – the HIGHlite Reference 1,080p, with 2,048 by 1,080 native resolution.

The unit is built on the world’s lightest and smallest 2K by 1K three-chip DLP platform, and produces a brightness output of 5,000 up to 14,000 ANSI lumens and a 2,000:1 contrast ratio, the company said.

The projector, which ships in October at a $105,995 suggested retail price, uses three 1.26-inch DMDs to produce full 1920-by-1080p resolution, or the even higher 2K digital cinema standard of 2,048-by-1,080p. The projector uses liquid cooling for quiet operation and can be installed in medium-to-very large home cinema environments

DPI makes a wide selection of high quality optics available for the system, including the aforementioned TheaterScope Premier system for projectors with 1,080p resolution.
