Distributors See Hopeful Holiday Sales Trends

NEW YORK — Distributors expect a good, competitive holiday sales season for CE and related categories as the industry sets its marketing, promotions and inventory plans for the fourth quarter.

Distributors contacted by TWICE for this special holiday preview expect tablets, smartphones and headphones to be in demand; see Ultra High Definition giving the flat-screen market more attention and more margin; and are looking to alternative categories — both in CE and beyond — to generate further growth. The introduction of new video game consoles will further spur holiday cheer for retailers.

As for Black Friday promotions, amid the usual concerns about giving away margins, distributors said such promotions will not affect unilateral pricing policy (UPP) programs with top-tier manufacturers. In fact, they report that retailers are just as happy as they are about the success of UPP programs this year.
