DirecTV Offers XM Channels

DirecTV and XM Satellite Radio announced that DIRECTV will offer 72 channels of XM music and talk programming to DirecTV subscribers starting Nov. 15.

XM’s selection on DirecTV will also include children’s programming, a Major League Baseball “Home Plate” talk radio channel, and Opie and Anthony.

DirecTV has 14.6 million subscribers. Those subscribing to its Total Choice package will receive 50 XM channels, and those with Total Choice Plus will receive more than 65 XM channels. DirecTV Para Todas customers will receive 65 channels plus five additional Latin music XM channels.

Rival Sirius Satellite Radio has had a similar partnership with DISH Network since May 2004. DISH Network premium subscribers receive Sirius music at no charge. DISH Network had close to 10 million subscribers at the end of 2004.
