DirecTV Expand Denver Call Center

El Segundo, Calif. — DirecTV said it will expand its national operations center in Denver early next year, making it “the nexus of all sales and service support” for DirecTV’s 15.4 million subscribers.

DirecTV said the expanded operation will move to a new facility that is scheduled to open in early 2007, and will oversee all customer care operations nationwide including call center management, field services, supply-chain management, independent retail services support and other support functions. The center will also house an expanded IT/data center operation, the satellite provider said.

The facility will also become the heart of DirecTV’s commercial support call center, and technical support customer call center, serving customers of advanced products, including DVRs, HD DVRS and interactive services. DirecTV said it will begin call center hiring in late 2006.

The expanded operation will be located in a six-story, 257,000-square foot facility — formerly occupied by ICG — in the Inverness Business Park in southeast Denver. DirecTV said it expects the expanded facilities to create up to 1,000 new local jobs.

“We have intensified our focus on service as our 15.4 million customer base continues to grow and we roll out a widening array of advanced products and services that require close support,” said John Suranyi, DirecTV sales and service president. “The Denver facility will give us the opportunity to create a true operational command center to more closely manage and support every aspect of customer sales and service nationwide.”

“We’ve had critical operations in the Denver area for several years, including the Castle Rock Broadcast Center that up-linked the first DirecTV signals 12 years ago,” he added. “With the concentration of telecommunications businesses, along with the enormously talented workforce, it made sense for us to expand our operations and create jobs here.”

In addition to the national operations center in Denver, the Castle Rock broadcast uplink facility south of Denver has 110 employees, and a local broadcast collection facility was recently opened near the site of the new operations facility. DirecTV also operates call centers in Boise, Idaho, Huntsville, Ala., and Tulsa, Okla., and will open a technical call center in Missoula, Mont., this summer.
