DHWG To Set Content Sharing Standard

San Francisco – In order to ensure full interoperability for digital content sharing, 17 CE and computer companies on June 24 organized the Digital Home Working Group (DHWG).

The group’s task is to develop an over arching platform based on current industry standards that companies can use to develop digital home products that share content through wired and wireless networks. These products will include PCs, TV set-top boxes, computer peripherals, stereos, portable devices and DVD players.

The DHWG’s initial members list includes Fujitsu, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Kenwood, Lenovo, Microsoft, NEC, Nokia Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony STMicroelectronics and Thomson.

The guideline developed by the group will incorporate standards such as WiFi, Internet Protocol and Universal Plug and Play. The goal is to quickly develop the specification and have the first DHWG certified products on the market within the next year. Consumers will be assured that products developed and marketed under the auspices of the DHWG should interact properly.

The DHWG plans to develop a comprehensive promotional program to educate consumers on the benefits of the digital home and the products developed under the DHWG standard.
