D&H Cares Raises $50K

Harrisburg, Pa.  –
D&H Distributing said its D&H Cares charity foundation has raised more
than $50,000 dollars for not-for-profit causes in its first year of
establishment.

The program, in which D&H’s ESOP employees administer a
series of quarterly initiatives to benefit different charity organizations, has
garnered “a terrific response from its participants, who have not only
volunteered their funds, but have repeatedly organized teams to participate in
various marathon-type activities,” the company said in a prepared statement.

The D&H Cares effort also comprises initiatives such as wellness
programs for its co-owners and eco-friendly infrastructures and policies
throughout its four distribution centers, in addition to its corporate
headquarters.

One of the company’s most recent D&H Cares events, for
example, was a charity golf outing that took place on July 25. It was attended
by approximately 140 individuals who raised close to $15,000 for the American
Cancer Society and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The main recipient for D&H Cares charity activities for the
program’s current fiscal quarter (August to October 2009) is the Penn State
Hershey Cancer Institute.

Since D&H Cares was launched in August of 2008, it has
focused its quarterly proceeds on the following organizations,
respectively:  The American Cancer
Society, Shriners Children’s Hospital, the Autism Society of America (ASA) and
Ronald McDonald House Charities.

D&H’s employees (known as “co-owners”) have joined together
to oversee several activities per month to benefit each quarter’s beneficiary,
coordinating and attending events such as silent auctions, raffles, luncheons
and association walks. The schedule often went beyond a single charity per
quarter, involving several organizations per month.

Some additional D&H Cares activities and beneficiaries in the
program’s first year include: The March of Dimes March for Babies; Habitat for
Humanity projects; Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk; Harrisburg Jingle
Bell Walk for Arthritis; The Millers Mutual Harrisburg Mile, benefiting local
YMCA youth and child care programs; Toys for Tots drive; Rejoice! (adoption,
foster care and specialized recruitment agency serving Pennsylvania); Central
Pennsylvania Food Bank drive; The Salvation Army; PAWS (Progressive Animal
Welfare Society); The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area’s 5K Run/Walk for the
Animals; and Caitlin’s Smiles (helping chronic and terminally ill children
through creative arts, which reaches up to 70,000 children per year).
