Delphi Intro’s XM Roady2

New York — Delphi and XM Satellite Radio announced a new, compact version of the plug-and-play Roady called the Roady2, which will also be the first satellite radio product to display up to 20 customizable stock quotes.

Launched at the 2004 Home Entertainment Show here, the Roady2 is four times smaller than most competing plug-and-play models, said Delphi. It also has a built-in wireless FM adapter for wireless connection to any car or home stereo that has FM reception.

  • XM said that various home and portable kits would be available this summer for the Roady2, including the newly announced boom box from Cambridge Sound Works. A home kit is also currently available for the Roady2 via the Internet, said XM’s senior VP product marketing and distribution Dan Murphy.
  • Delphi is expected to ship the Roady2 in July at a price to be announced. The current Roady sells for under $120.
  • XM also recently announced that Panasonic would produce XM ready head units for the truck market. The company will supply an AM/FM/XM/CD player and an AM/FM/XM cassette player. Both will be compatible with the new XM Direct tuner box. Pana Pacific Corp. will distribute the units in July.
  • Polk Audio also said it agreed to collaborate with XM on the development of a high performance XM component tuner for use with home audio systems.
