Detroit — Delphi said its recent filing for Chapter 11 court protection will not impact its sales of such consumer electronics products as XM receivers and Delphi Mobile Video.
Consumer electronics director Joe Damato said Delphi has been preparing for the reorganization for several months and has been in contact with key retail customers and suppliers. “I can absolutely tell you, it’s business as usually here today. We had to do what we had to do as a larger company to protect the long-term value of the company,” Damato said.
Consumer electronics is the fastest growing segment at Delphi as measured by percentage of growth, he added.
The reorganization will not cause an interruption in product availability, product development or warranty service, Damato claimed. “If anything, after we go through this process, we should actually be a stronger CE company when we do come out of it because we’ll be able to put more of our profits back into product development vs. helping to support some underperforming areas,” he said.
Delphi, which produces the XM SkyFi, Roady and MyFi receivers, said it recently shipped its 3 millionth satellite radio receiver.
One key 12-volt retail chain, Audio Expresss of Scottsdale, Ariz., said Delphi’s Chapter 11 filing had no effect on Delphi business thus far. “We’ll wait and see what impact it has,” said purchasing manager Paul Gosswiller. He noted that Delphi assured him of business as usual.
Delphi, the largest U.S. auto supplier, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Saturday in New York.
