Dell Targets Emerging Economies With Vostro

Beijing — Dell  is targeting small businesses, governments and educational institutions in emerging economies with its latest Vostro products, two preconfigured laptops and two desktops.

“Within the world’s emerging economies, millions of new businesses are demanding just the technology they need, at the prices they can afford, from a vendor they can trust. Today we answer that need by introducing new products that join our existing Vostro product line,” said Steve Felice, president, Dell Asia-Pacific/Japan.

While developing products for customers in “emerging economies,” Dell said it identified four key challenges related to the purchase, ownership and support of technology, and the company said it worked to eliminate those challenges with its new Vostro devices. Those challenges included cost, product reliability and quality, finding solutions that are easy to set up and maintain, and accessible support and services.

The newly available Vostro products include the A860 and the A840 laptops and the A180 and A100 desktops.

The 15.6-inch Dell Vostro A860 laptop features HD widescreen LCD with anti-glare coating. Customers are given the choice of a variety of Intel processors, including Celeron and Core 2 Duo, and the choice of Ubuntu Linux or Microsoft Genuine Windows Vista operating systems. The laptop also offers an integrated network, modem and wireless connectivity with optional Bluetooth capabilities.

The Dell Vostro A840 is said to be a 14-1 inch version of the A860. It has an anti-glare WXGA widescreen LCD.

The A180 desktop offers Intel Celeron and Pentium dual core processors along with the option of Ubuntu Linux or Microsoft Genuine Windows Vista operating systems.

The A100 is being called an entry-level desktop design for basic business functions. It comes standard with an Intel Atom processor and Ubuntu Linux operating system.

The products will be available through authorized channel partners and direct through Dell in more than 20 countries in Asia, Europe and Latin America. Pricing will vary based on configuration, region and country.

The company said it has plans to unveil additional Vostro products targeted at this sector in coming months.
