Round Rock, Texas - Dell generated $441 million in GAAP net
income on $14.9 billion in revenue for its first quarter, a 52 percent increase
over last year.
Revenue for Dell's first fiscal quarter of 2011, ended April 30,
was up 21 percent compared with the first quarter of 2010.
The company cited strong growth in its enterprise product
categories, particularly servers, for most of the growth. However, its consumer
component also performed well, posting $17 million in operating income and $3.2
billion in revenue for respective increases of 20 percent and 16 percent,
compared with the same period the year before.
Dell executives said the enterprise product could be an early
indicator that corporations are starting to refresh their computer systems, and
the company expects a seasonal uptick for the consumer market in the second and
third quarters mainly due to the back-to-school selling season.
