Dell Moves To Cut Costs

Round Rock, Texas — Dell has imposed a hiring freeze, is offering employees voluntary buyouts and is asking employees to take unpaid vacation all as part of an economic-downturn-inspired effort to cut costs, The Wall Street Journal reported today.

The company is also expected to cut its use of contract employees and cut travel expenses among other efforts.

The Journal reported that these latest efforts are intended to result in additional savings beyond the $3 billion in annual expenses the manufacturer previously pledged to cut by 2011. A spokesperson told the paper that “those reductions are just about complete.”
