Dell Intros $899 Notebook

Round Rock, Tex. – Dell Computers yesterday introduced two new entry-level notebook computers yesterday, including a model priced at $899.

The Inspiron models each come in several different flavors. An Intel Celeron 2GHz processor powers the Inspiron 1100, can accept up to 512MB of DDR RAM, two USB 2.0 ports and 20GB, 30GB or 40GB hard drive. Other options include both a 14.1-inch or 15-inch LCD and a choice of several different optical drives of a 24x CD-ROM, 24x CD-RW, 8x DVD-ROM, or a combo 24xCD-RW/DVD.

As part of the launch Dell is offering a $100 instant rebate on the 1100, lowering the price to $799.

The higher-end 5100 has a base model price of $1,100. It can be equipped with four different Pentium 4 processors, a 2.4GHz, 2.53GHz, 2.66GHz and 2.8GHz. Up to 1GB of DDR RAM can be included and it comes with the same screen size and optical drive choices as the 1100. A 30GB or 40GB hard drive is available. The model is 10/100 Ethernet ready and an optional integrated WiFi capability is available for $49. Two ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 graphics cards are available, one with 16MB and another with 32MB or on board memory.
