Dell Adds XPS 14z Laptop

Round Rock, Texas – Dell today unveiled its XPS 14z laptop.

The company is touting the notebook as its thinnest fully featured
laptop ever and geared toward the professional power user.

The XPS, shipping Nov. 1 with a $999 starting price, has a
14-inch display that the company said fits into the same amount of space
occupied by a 13.3-inch screen. The 14z joins the 15-inch XPS 15z that is now
on the market.

The unit is 23mm thick, weighs 4.3 pounds and is powered by
a second-generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor. For graphics it
features Nvidia’s GeForce GT 520M with 1MB of memory. Also optional is Nvidia’s
Optimus technology, which optimizes a laptop for better graphics playback and
to extend battery life.

The 14z can take up to 6GB of dual-channel DDR3 or 8GB of
DDR3 1333MHz memory. Storage options include a 7,200 rpm 500GB to 750GB HDD or
a 256GB solid-state drive.

There is a slot-load DVD reader/writer, backlit keyboard, Bluetooth,
six hours of battery life and USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, along with HDMI 1.4 and an
RJ-45 jack.
