Cydle Readies PNDs, PMPs, MID

Torrance, Calif. – Korean electronics supplier

Cydle

plans an International CES unveiling of
a variety of portable digital devices, including a portable navigation device
(PND) equipped with HD Radio-delivered traffic reports, devices that combine
PNDs with portable media players (PMPs), and a PMP equipped with a Mobile DTV
tuner.

The company, launched in 2006 with U.S.
offices in Torrance, Calif., will also unveil a mobile Internet
device (MID) that doubles as a PMP.

The TV-tuning PMP, the P29A, is due in the second quarter at an
estimated retail of $199. It will conform to the ATSC standard for Mobile TV
technology, enabling TV stations to broadcast a digital signal that can be
viewed while the tuner is in a moving vehicle. It features music and video
playback, photo viewer, 2.9-inch capacitive
touchscreen, gravity sensor to automatically reorient the display into portrait
or landscape mode for video viewing, rechargeable battery, world clock and voice
recorder.

A related model, the P29H PMP, will
feature embedded FM HD Radio tuner for radio playback, 2.9-inch
capacitive touchscreen, 18 station presets, gravity sensor, photo viewer, voice
recorder, alarm clock and rechargeable battery. Its target price is $99.

The
T43H is a PND that receives
real-time traffic updates via the HD FM-based HD TMC (Traffic Messaging
Channel). It also receives traffic info via analog FM, though at a slower data rate.
The T43H, retailing for $299, features 4.3-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth and an
audio output to connect to existing car stereo systems to play back HD Radio FM
stations. The PND comes with a flexible wire antenna that held onto the dash or
window via suction cups. It’s available.

At last year’s CES, Dual showed the first PNDs with HD Radio traffic
service but didn’t ship them, said HD Radio developer iBiquity Digital. HD
Radio-delivered real-time traffic reports deliver updates with ore than 10
times the bandwidth of analog FM-delivered updates, providing updates every 10
seconds rather than every few minutes and providing information for a broader
selection of roads.

Two combination PNDs/PMPs are the T70 with 7-inch touchscreen and T50
with 5-inch touchscreen. Both are due in the second quarter. Pricing was
unavailable. Both will also be available with optional HD traffic-report
reception and an optional connected BX1 black box with shock sensor to store
video from 15 seconds before and 15 seconds after the vehicle hits another car
or stationary object. The video, saved to an SD card, can be used in
investigations. The box retails for a suggested $149.

The M7 MID, due in the second quarter at $199, features 10.2-inch wide
LCD screen, searches the Internet via Wi-Fi, stores music and video for
playback, and doubles as a digital photo frame. An attached screen cover
doubles as a tabletop stand. It features HDMI output, landscape and portrait
display, 8GB of embedded memory and a memory card slot accepting up to an
additional 8GB. It will ship in the second quarter at an expected $199.
