Creative Intros Vado HD Camcorder

Milpitas, Calif. — Creative introduced a high-definition version of its Vado pocket video camera today, ratcheting up the competition in the burgeoning market for inexpensive flash camcorders.

It follows on the heels of

Kodak’s Zi6

and

Pure Digital’s Mino HD

. Like those models, the Vado HD records 720p video at 30 fps but it includes an HDMI cable for outputting 1080i video to HDTVs.

The $229 Vado HD features 8GB of internal memory, a 2-inch LCD, a removable and rechargeable battery for up to two hours of recording, a built-in USB connector and built-in Vado Central software for uploading video directly to YouTube and Box.net.

Using the software, consumers can also capture still images or successive stills from their video files. Muvee software is also included for light editing.

Creative offers several accessories for the Vado including a $14.99 pouch, spare batteries ($14.99), a power adapter/charging station for $29.99 and an underwater pouch, also for $29.99.
