Consumer Confidence In Tech Up: CEA

3/27/2012 10:55:15 AM Eastern

Arlington, Va. - The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)
reported that consumer confidence in technology improved in March.

Consumer confidence hit 88.9 on the CEA's Index of Consumer
Confidence. This is three points higher than in February and 10 above January's
mark. This is the index's highest level this year. The highest mark ever
registered was 93.6 in December 2011.

Shawn DuBravac, CEA's chief economist and research senior
director, said Apple's latest iPad launch along with new models of televisions
and smartphones likely boosted confidence numbers and technology spending in
March.

However, consumer confidence in the overall economy dropped
in March. The CEA Index of Consumer Expectations fell 1 percent to 173.6. This
figure is 12 points higher than it was at the same time in 2011.

DuBravac blamed higher gasoline prices for the drop in
consumer expectations for March.
