Coby Ships Its First Android 4.0 Tablets

Success, N.Y. – Coby has begun shipping two of its first six tablets based on
the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, all priced at less than $300.

The
two models that are shipping are the $179-suggested 7-inch MID7042-4 with 16:9
display and the $279-suggested 9.7-inch MID9742-8 with 4:3 display.

The
four other models are due in the spring at suggested retails ranging from a
suggested $229 to $299. They are the $229 8-inch MID8042-4 with 4:3 display,
the $259 9-inch MID9042-8 with 16:10 display, the $289 10-inch MID1042-8 with 16:9
display, and the $299 10-inch MID1045-8 with 16:10 display.

 All six models access thousands of free apps
through the GetJar app store and feature a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, Wi-Fi
802.11b/g/n, 1GB of RAM and built-in a camera. The 9-, 9.7- and 10-inch models
have 8GB of embedded memory storage, and the 7- and 8-inch models have 4GB of
embedded storage. All also feature a MicroSD slot to add another 32GB of
storage.

Last
December, Coby announced plans for only four Android 4.0 devices, didn’t reveal
prices, and said they would ship sometime in the first quarter.

Coby
is one of the first companies to ship Android 4.0 tablets. Marketing VP Jodi
Sally said the Ice Cream Sandwich tablets received a “warm reception” at International
CES.
