Cirago Makes Branded Debut

Mountain View, Calif. - Cirago International, an OEM marketer of consumer electronics and PC peripherals, is making its branded debut in North America with portable AV products.

Its first Cirago-branded North American product is the three-in-one Marvel 128MB MP3 portable, which also serves as a voice recorder and USB data-storage drive at an everyday $129. It's available to retailers, e-tailers, and catalogers through Canadian hardware distributor ASI Partners and computer reseller Metro Business Systems in the Northeast.

The device will be followed by other MP3 players and MPEG4 AV portables, the first targeted for year-end availability. The company also plans low-end portable audio products for the drug/grocery channel and low-cost organizers with retails for less than $20.

Cirago's parent, Cirago International of Hong Kong, was founded in 1996 to market CE and computer peripherals on an OEM basis. The company buys the designs from a Chinese factory and markets them to branded suppliers. 'We appear as seamless from the factory as the American arm,' a spokesman said. Cirago is the factory's exclusive North American and European partner, he added.

Cirago president Patrick Lo was formerly R&D manager for Creative Labs.

The thumb-sized Marvel provides 12 hours of playback on one AAA battery and features drag-and-drop file transfer, blue back-lit LCD, and ability to store video, images and other data from a PC.
