CES To Hold Summit On Boomer Market

Arlington, Va. — The boomer market will be the focus of a new summit during International CES in January, according to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the show’s producer.

Called the first annual Silvers Summit Exhibition and Conference, Karen Chupka, events and conferences senior VP for CEA, said, “Senior consumers are a booming market segment looking for the latest technologies and innovations that add value to their lives. We are thrilled to welcome the Silvers Summit to the 2009 International CES, and look forward to the dynamic conference sessions and exhibits focused on this important consumer group.”

The Silvers Summit one-day conference will take place on Jan. 10, 2009, with support from partners including American Association of Retired People (AARP), Microsoft, Clarity, the Center for Aging Services and Technologies (CAST) and Continua Healthcare. The full-day conference will feature insight from developers, policymakers, service industries and the media — all focused on the boomer market segment and how to better connect with the growing demographic. Morning conference speakers include Mary Furlong, founder of ThirdAge and president and CEO of Mary Furlong Associates, who will explore the lifestyle and dynamics of senior consumers, and Dr. Gary Small, director, UCLA Center on Aging, who will explore the growing brain fitness market. Afternoon sessions will focus on consumer-driven healthcare and the CE device market. Speakers include Eric Dishman, Intel fellow and director of Intel’s digital health group, as well as Don Jones, health and life sciences VP at Qualcomm, who will discuss new innovations in wireless bandages and pills.

Additional speakers include Dr. Majd Alwan, director of CAST, who will discuss innovative ways to effectively monitor elderly relatives, and Esther Dyson, journalist, entrepreneur, philanthropist, Edventures, who will explore trends in personal healthcare information.
