Casio Intros Durable DigiCam

Orlando – Casio’s latest digital camera, announced at the PMA show, here, has been designed to endure the slings and arrows of nature’s fortune.

The GV-10 is 1.23 megapixel camera with a 2x digital zoom and an exterior engineered for water, dust and shock-resistance.

The camera ships in March and has a suggested retail price of $349.99.

According to Casio, the GV-10 features a ‘pixel generator’ that increases the image size to almost 2 megapixel, resulting in better detail and smoother lines when images are enlarged for printing.

The camera’s exterior is made of long-strand fiberglass, which is enclosed with a high-elasticity ‘elastomer’ for shock resistance. Internal circuitry floats on a ‘floating mount’ that uses shock absorbing gel sheets to protect circuits and components from external jolts.

The camera also can be immersed in a container of standard temperature still tap water to a depth of 1 meter for about 30 minutes. It can also withstand direct jets of water from any direction.

The camera ships with an 8MB CompactFlash card and can record up to 10 second AVI movies. It can also connect to a computer USB and serve as a video-conferencing PC-cam.

Images are stored in a buffer as they are recorded which makes it possible to record continuous images at high speed – up to seven 1280 x 960 images or 51 640 x 480 images at a time.
