N.Y. – Audiovox plans July shipments of the car Blu-ray player it unveiled at
January’s CES, and Sony said it should know in the next few weeks whether it
will bring Blu-ray to the 12-volt market anytime soon.
For
its part, Audiovox plans July shipments of its Advent Blu-ray player for the
expeditor market and the $349.99-suggested Audiovox-brand model for the retail
aftermarket. During CES, the company said the products would ship in the
summer.
The
Advent and Audiovox players are single-DIN slot-loading models that lack AM/FM
and mount in the dash, under a seat or in the trunk to integrate with other
head units. It connects to any in-vehicle monitor via its HDMI, composite or
component outputs. The player comes with RF wireless remote with 18-foot range,
enabling control of the player even if it is tucked away in a storage
compartment.
The
player can be mounted horizontally or vertically, and it features a front-panel
iPod/iPhone USB input to display video stored on the portable devices.
For its part,
Sony went to CES to show an early version of a double-DIN in-dash A/V
system with Blu-ray player. The head would be able to display Blu-ray video on
its in-dash display if the car is not moving, and it would connect to rear-seat
LCD screens for video playback as well.
In finished form, Sony’s unit might be equipped to connect to an
optional black-box navigation module, the company said during CES. At the time,
the company also didn’t know whether the product would ship in calendar 2011.
“We
should know more in the next few weeks,” a spokesperson told TWICE.
