Canon Boosts All-In-One Speeds

Lake Success, N.Y. — Canon debuted a pair of photo all-in-ones and a compact printer yesterday, introducing several new features designed to speed printer performance.

The Pixma MP470 and MP210 photo all-in-ones (AIO) incorporate Canon’s new "AutoImage Fix" and "Quick Start" features. AutoImage Fix automatically analyzes and categorizes scenes within a photo to optimize the image according to its contents. Quick start enables the AIOs to power up faster.

Both models can produce 4-inch by 6-inch photo prints in roughly 46 seconds, Canon said.

The MP740

The MP470 sports a 1.8-inch flip-up LCD screen. It is a four-color printer with one color and one black cartridge featuring two-picoliter droplet sizes and print resolutions up to 4800 by 1200 dpi.

The AIO can crank out 22 ppm in black and up to 17 ppm in color. It offers a USB port and memory card slots for direct printing and will work with an optional Bluetooth adapter ($49.99). The MP470 will retail for an estimated $99.99.

For an estimated $79.99, the MP210 offers many of the same features as the MP470 minus the LCD screen. It does include Canon’s “Z-Lid” expansion lid for scanning larger items.

In the fall, Canon will add the compact Selphy CP740 to its lineup. The printer features a 2-inch LCD, automatic red-eye correction and memory card slots. It can produce a 4- by 6-inch photo in roughly 58 seconds. It will retail for an estimated $99.99.
