introduced Tuesday a fixed IP 1.3-megapixel security cameras,
offering built-in video analytics and conformance to the Open Video Network
Interface Forum (ONVIF) interoperability standard.
Model VB-M700F (shipping in August at a $979 suggested retail) features
a streamlined appearance, and integrates a number advanced image technologies
carried over from its digital camera division to support strong image quality.
Canon said the device is targeted at placement in transportation
centers, banks and ATM rooms, schools, retail stores, gaming establishments and
similar IP security-video environments.
“The security camera market is rapidly growing, and Canon has
developed a range of megapixel security cameras combining superb image quality,
Intelligent Features and innovations maximizing the proven advantages of video
over IP for remote monitoring,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, Canon U.S.A. imaging technologies
and communications group executive VP and general manager. “The VB-M700F
integrates advanced on-board technologies developed to address the unique needs
of both security-monitoring professionals and camera-installers alike.”
The VB-M700F will record high-resolution picture detail and color
in a wide variety of lighting conditions. It includes a Canon 3x optical zoom
lens with a focal length of 2.8 to 8.4mm and 102.5 degree wide-angle of view.
The 1.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and Canon Digic Net image processor
enables reproduces high detail in low-illumination environments down to 0.018
lux at f/1.2 and 1/8 sec. in color and 0.001 lux at f/1.2 and 1/8 sec. in black
and white.
Proprietary Canon image-processing features built into the
VB-M700F include Smart Shade Control, which automatically adjusts the contrast
between bright and dark image areas for optimum detail display, as well as a
Night Mode that increases sensitivity by removing an IR cut filter and
adjusting digital gain.
This increased sensitivity can be crucial for obtaining key
visual information in low-light environments, Canon said.
The Digic Net image processor and H.264 video compression codec enable
high-resolution video, low bandwidth utilization and low disk space usage.
Video data-streaming options include simultaneous transmission of
H.264 and Motion-JPEG in resolutions of 1280 by 960, 640 by 480, and 320 by
240. Motion-JPEG also can be streamed at 160 by 120.
On-board video analytics enable
security professionals to monitor large quantities of video content with
moving, abandoned and removed-object detection.
These can be helpful in identifying potentially crucial visual
details in the video image along with attempts to tamper with the camera, Canon
said.
Users of the camera can also adjust the shape and size of the
detection area as well.
An added analytics feature is monitoring changes in the camera’s
immediate environment such as abnormal sound levels in the vicinity of the
camera’s installation location.
Additional user-adjustable features include a Privacy Mask
function that can be set to block sensitive locations, such as ATM keypads or
computer monitors, from the camera’s view.
Other features include a built-in SD Memory Card slot that allows
still images to be saved to an SD/SDHC memory card during network outages.
Support for SSL (HTTPS) is included for secure data communication
between the camera and monitoring PCs.
