C Spire Prepares For 4G LTE Launch

Ridgeland, Miss. – C Spire
Wireless became the latest cellular carrier to announce plans to launch 4G LTE
service.

The carrier, which offers the 3G
iPhone, didn’t disclose which 4G LTE phones or data devices would be available
at launch in September, but it said service pricing would equal current 3G
pricing.

C Spire will join regional
carriers MetroPCS and Cricket (Leap Wireless) in offering LTE service along
with Verizon and AT&T. Sprint and Clearwire also plan to offer LTE, and
T-Mobile last month announced plans to add LTE to its AWS band spectrum.

For its part, C Spire will begin
to roll out 4G LTE in September in 20 Mississippi markets covering 2,700 square
miles and a population of 1.2 million people. C Spire didn’t say when the rest
of its network, which covers Mississippi, would get the service.

Subscribers can expect average
data speeds from 4Mbps to 12Mbps when downloading and 1Mbps to 5 Mbps when
uploading, the carrier said.

Among regional carriers, Prepaid
carrier Leap Wireless launched its first 4G LTE market late last year.
MetroPCS’s first LTE market launch was in Las Vegas in September 2010 and has
since expanded to all 14 of its core operating markets.
