Framingham, Mass. — Bose announced it will debut a new energy-efficient car sound system in the 2011 Chevy Volt, the much-heralded electric car due from General Motors in late 2010.
The sound system will use 50 percent less energy than previous Bose autosound offerings, Bose said. The system is also 30 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter, which will help the Volt achieve up to 40 miles of electric-only range, said Bose.
The company was not available for further comment on the technology, but it said the system uses switching amplifiers (Class D) instead of linear amplifiers and new “motor force” speakers.
