B&N Debuts Nook For Android App

New York – Barnes
& Noble introduced a Nook app for Android phones and said that an iPhone
and iPad versions will soon be available. 

The free Android
app (which requires OS 1.6 and higher) lets users buy and download e-book in
the EPUB format from Barnes & Noble’s eBookstore. According to the company,
any e-books purchased from the eBookstore – whether purchased on a Nook
e-reader, online at BN.com or on another BN e-reader-enabled device — will
sync to the device.

Requests for a
more concrete timeline for the iPhone version weren’t answered as of this
posting.

Features of the
Nook for Android app include a navigation bar, the ability to customize text
via eight different fonts, the ability to read in both landscape and portrait
modes, graphical page turns, and cover-art display.   

It is also offers
LendMe digital lending, which lets users share eligible e-books for up to 14
days with others. The number or percentage of eligible books wasn’t given.

B&N said users
who sign up for a new BN.com account when downloading the app will receive
three e-books in their libraries: “Dracula,” “Little Women” and “Pride &
Prejudice.”
