Barrett, Chambers To Speak At 2009 Int’l CES

Qingdao, China — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) used its visit to SinoCES, here, to announce its first speakers for the 2009 International CES, to be held in Las Vegas Jan. 8-11.

Craig Barrett, chairman of Intel, and John Chambers, chairman/CEO of Cisco, will be featured speakers during the Technology and Emerging Countries Program during CES on Jan. 9. In making the announcement, CEA president/CEO Gary Shapiro said that the significance is that these key executives are the “innovators of their companies” and that they will be specifically be addressing this audience.

Also CEA and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) are partnering to launch a new Global Media Awards program focused on technology and content programming at the 2009 CES.

Global Media Awards Call for Entries is now open. Submissions must be postmarked by Sept. 12, 2008, CEA said. Categories for the Global Media Awards include short form, advertising, Web site/Internet, repurposed linear/traditional content, long form, platform and user experience/program guide.

And CEA will introduce at CES two new programs:

* Silver Summit — A program on technologies for older consumers;

* Kids@Play — This will look at technologies used by children for play and education.
