AT&T Finalizes Atrix 4G Availability

Dallas – AT&T
finalized the in-store availability date of Motorola’s Atrix 4G, its first smartphone
with 2×1 GHz dual-core processor.

The Atrix 4G
will be available in AT&T stores and other retail outlets on Feb. 22, the
carrier said. AT&T previously cited an in-store date of Match 6 or earlier.

The $199 phone
has been available for pre-order from AT&T since Feb. 13. Consumers who
have already preordered will have the device delivered on Feb. 21 to their home
or office.  Customers who wanted the device sent to an AT&T store will
also be able to pick up the phone on Feb. 21.

The phone is an
Android 2.2-based phone that will operate on the carrier’s 4G HSPA+ network.

The phone will
also be bundled with two Motorola docking solutions. One dock, the Motorola
Laptop Dock, is the first of its kind, and it takes the shape of a
laptop-looking clamshell with 11.6-inch display. The Atrix 4G, which physically
docks into the back of the clamshell, acts as the clamshell’s engine.  The Laptop Dock bundle will cost $499 with
two-year service contract, after $100 mail-in-rebate, and with required $45/month
4GB data plan with mobile hot spot service and tethering, which is needed to
use the laptop’s Mozilla browser to access the web via cellular. The Laptop
Dock will also be available outside the bundle at $499.

The second
docking solution, the Motorola HD Multimedia Dock, connects the Atrix 4G via
Bluetooth to a keyboard and mouse and via HDMI to an HDTV. It will retail for
$189 with included remote.

Both
docks enable a large-screen display of stored HD video and Mozilla’s Firefox
web browser.
